Privacy Policy
This policy explains what munichtourism.org collects, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the site as it actually operates today, last reviewed September 2026. Where something is planned but not yet live, it says so.
The short version
You can read every guide on this site without giving us anything. We have no accounts, no login, no newsletter and no comment section. The only time you hand us personal data deliberately is if you fill in the contact form. Everything else is measurement, advertising and infrastructure. This site carries display advertising, which is what pays for it and is also the part of the site with the widest data footprint; it has a section of its own below.
Who is responsible
Munich Tourism Guide, publisher of munichtourism.org, is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us about any of it through the contact page; write “privacy request” in the subject line and it will be handled as one.
What we collect
Information you send us
The contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject line and your message. We use them to read and answer you, and for nothing else. Submissions are delivered to our inbox and a copy may be retained in the site’s database. We do not add correspondents to any list, do not sell or share this data, and do not use it for advertising. Correspondence is deleted once it no longer serves a purpose, and sooner if you ask.
The form is protected by an anti-spam check that inspects the submission itself. It does not profile you.
Server logs
Our host records standard web-server logs: IP address, timestamp, the page requested, referring URL, and browser user-agent. This is automatic, applies to every website, and exists for security and fault diagnosis. We do not use these logs to build profiles of readers, and they are rotated by the host on its own schedule.
Analytics
We run Google Analytics 4 to see which guides are read and where readers get stuck. It sets cookies and reports to Google, which acts as our processor for this purpose. We look at it in aggregate — pages, referrers, countries, devices. We do not use it to identify individual readers, and we have not enabled Google Signals or advertising personalisation features within it.
We also use Google Search Console, which reports on how the site appears in search results. It works from Google’s own data about its search engine and collects nothing from your visit.
Google is a US company and analytics data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States, under Google’s standard contractual clauses and its participation in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google’s browser opt-out add-on.
Cookies in summary
Today the site sets analytics cookies (Google Analytics); advertising cookies and similar identifiers set by Mediavine and its advertising partners, as described in the Advertising section above; and, on a page load that involves the contact form, functional cookies needed for the form and its spam check to work. Page caching is used to make the site fast; it does not track you. There are no social-media widgets, heatmaps or session recorders on this site, and we load no third-party fonts. Advertising does load third-party scripts, which is unavoidable on a site that carries ads. Your browser lets you block or delete cookies for any site, including this one; blocking analytics or advertising cookies will not affect anything you can read here. Our cookie policy names the individual cookies, explains which are advertising and which are not, and sets out how to turn the optional ones off.
Advertising
This site is funded by advertising. Our ads are sold and served by Mediavine, an advertising network, through its Journey programme. We do not choose the individual ads you see, and advertisers have no say in what we write. We carry no affiliate links and earn no commission on anything we link to.
Mediavine and the advertising partners it works with may set cookies and similar identifiers to select ads, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether an ad was seen. Where the law requires your permission first, they are not loaded until you give it.
Advertising is the part of this site that collects the most, so we would rather set it out plainly than leave it implied. To choose the ads you see, Mediavine and its partners collect information such as your IP address, approximate location, device and browser, and your activity across other sites, and pass it to advertisers through a real-time bidding marketplace. Under California’s privacy law and comparable laws in other US states, that counts as selling and sharing personal information. Mediavine does this as the controller of that data rather than on our behalf: we do not receive it, we cannot see it, and we do not combine it with anything else.
You can control it. In the EEA and the UK, a consent banner appears on your first visit and advertising cookies are not set until you accept; you can reopen it later from the privacy settings link Mediavine places in the site footer. In US states where the right applies, a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information button appears at the foot of the page. Mediavine also honours the Global Privacy Control browser signal. These controls are provided by Mediavine and appear only where the relevant law applies, so you may not see all of them from where you are reading.

Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and — for readers in California and other US states with comparable laws — to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not ourselves sell or share personal information, and we never sell, share or disclose what you send us through the contact form. Advertising is the exception you should know about: as set out above, Mediavine and its partners do share personal data for interest-based advertising, which California and comparable US state laws treat as selling and sharing. The opt-out for it is the button Mediavine places at the foot of the page, and the Global Privacy Control browser signal is honoured.
Ask through the contact page. We will respond within a month. If you are in the EEA or UK and are unhappy with the outcome, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
This site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the review date at the top is updated. We do not make retrospective claims about periods before a change.
