This policy explains what munichtourism.org collects, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the site as it actually operates today, last reviewed August 2026. Where something is planned but not yet live, it says so.
The short version
You can read every guide on this site without giving us anything. We have no accounts, no login, no newsletter and no comment section. The only time you hand us personal data deliberately is if you fill in the contact form. Everything else is measurement and infrastructure.
Who is responsible
Munich Tourism Guide, publisher of munichtourism.org, is the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us about any of it through the contact page; write “privacy request” in the subject line and it will be handled as one.
What we collect
Information you send us
The contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject line and your message. We use them to read and answer you, and for nothing else. Submissions are delivered to our inbox and a copy may be retained in the site’s database. We do not add correspondents to any list, do not sell or share this data, and do not use it for advertising. Correspondence is deleted once it no longer serves a purpose, and sooner if you ask.
The form is protected by an anti-spam check that inspects the submission itself. It does not profile you.
Server logs
Our host records standard web-server logs: IP address, timestamp, the page requested, referring URL, and browser user-agent. This is automatic, applies to every website, and exists for security and fault diagnosis. We do not use these logs to build profiles of readers, and they are rotated by the host on its own schedule.
Analytics
We run Google Analytics 4 to see which guides are read and where readers get stuck. It sets cookies and reports to Google, which acts as our processor for this purpose. We look at it in aggregate — pages, referrers, countries, devices. We do not use it to identify individual readers, and we have not enabled Google Signals or advertising personalisation features within it.
We also use Google Search Console, which reports on how the site appears in search results. It works from Google’s own data about its search engine and collects nothing from your visit.
Google is a US company and analytics data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States, under Google’s standard contractual clauses and its participation in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google’s browser opt-out add-on.
Advertising
At the time of writing, no advertising is being served on this site. We are in the process of introducing display advertising through Google AdSense, and this section describes how that will work so that it is documented before it goes live rather than after.
Once advertising is active:
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and out of some third-party vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
- Third-party advertising vendors may also place cookies through this site. We do not control those cookies and cannot read them.
- Readers in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland will be shown a consent message before any advertising or analytics cookies requiring consent are set, and can change or withdraw that choice at any time. That mechanism will be in place before advertising is switched on.
We will update this section, and the date at the top of this page, when advertising goes live.
Cookies in summary
Today the site sets analytics cookies (Google Analytics) and, on a page load that involves the contact form, functional cookies needed for the form and its spam check to work. Page caching is used to make the site fast; it does not track you. There are no social-media widgets, embedded trackers, heatmaps, session recorders or third-party fonts loaded from external servers on this site. Your browser lets you block or delete cookies for any site, including this one; blocking analytics cookies will not affect anything you can read here.
Why we are allowed to do this
Under the GDPR, our legal bases are: your consent for analytics and, in due course, advertising cookies where consent is required; legitimate interests for security logging and for running the site reliably; and, for the contact form, the steps taken at your request before and during correspondence. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting what was done beforehand.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and — for readers in California and other US states with comparable laws — to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Ask through the contact page. We will respond within a month. If you are in the EEA or UK and are unhappy with the outcome, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
This site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us something through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the review date at the top is updated. We do not make retrospective claims about periods before a change.
