Munich Tourism Guide is an independent travel resource about one city and the region around it. We are not the Bavarian tourist board, we are not a booking site, and we do not sell anything. We publish long, detailed guides for people who are actually going to Munich and need to make decisions — which Wiesn tent to aim for, whether the Bayern Ticket beats a single-journey fare, whether Neuschwanstein is worth a full day out of a four-day trip.
What is on this site
The site went live in April 2026 and now holds around 140 guides, organised into sixteen sections that map onto the decisions a trip actually involves: Trip Planning, Getting Around, Where to Stay, Things to Do, Food & Beer, Oktoberfest, Christmas Markets, Museums, Neighbourhoods, Day Trips, History & Architecture, Nightlife, Kids & Family, Shopping, Budget and more.
Guides run long — typically 2,500 to 6,000 words — because the useful part of travel writing is usually the detail that gets cut. A piece on the U-Bahn that does not explain the MVV ring-zone system, or what the Deutschlandticket does and does not cover, has not helped anybody. We would rather publish one thorough guide to Munich’s Christmas markets than fifteen listicles about them.
How we research
Every guide starts from primary sources rather than from other travel blogs. In practice that means:
- Operators and institutions first. Transport facts come from MVV and MVG, rail from Deutsche Bahn, flights and terminal layout from Munich Airport, museum hours and pricing from the Pinakotheken, Deutsches Museum, Residenz München and the rest directly.
- Official city and state sources for anything a municipality controls — the city’s own muenchen.de and munich.travel pages for market dates, festival logistics and public-holiday closures, which in Bavaria are more numerous than most visitors expect.
- Cross-checking anything that moves. Oktoberfest dates shift each year, market opening weekends are set late, fares change every January, and museums rearrange their free and reduced-price days. Where a fact has a date attached, we say when it applies rather than presenting it as permanent.
- Saying so when something is a judgement. “The Viktualienmarkt beer garden is more pleasant on a weekday morning” is an opinion; “it is open Monday to Saturday” is a fact. We try not to blur the two.
Where we link out, we link to the source itself — the ticket office, the transport authority, the museum — so you can confirm the current position yourself. That matters more for Munich than for many destinations, because so much of the calendar is seasonal and so much of it is announced only a few months ahead.
Independence
We do not take payment for coverage. No hotel, tour operator, brewery or restaurant on this site has paid to be here, and none of them can pay to be removed. There is no sponsored content and no paid placement. We do not currently run affiliate links; if that ever changes it will be disclosed on the page where it applies, not buried here.
The site is funded by display advertising. Advertising is sold and placed by a third party and has no bearing on what we write or how we rank anything — the people writing the guides do not know which advertisers appear against them.
Corrections
Travel information decays. A tram line gets rerouted, a beer garden changes hands, a museum closes a wing for two years. If you find something on this site that is out of date or simply wrong, we would rather hear it than not — tell us via the contact page, ideally with the guide name and what has changed. Corrections are made to the guide itself rather than appended as a note, and substantive ones update the page’s revision date.
What this site is not
It is not a booking engine, a review aggregator, or a source of visa or legal advice. Entry requirements in particular change on political timelines and vary by nationality — our guide on the subject explains the shape of the rules and then sends you to the German Federal Foreign Office, which is the only source that counts. Read anything here as a well-researched starting point, then verify the specifics that your trip depends on.
